Vietnam-EU price war benefits Vietnam Airlines passengers

National flag carrier Vietnam Airlines is set to offer 20-30 percent off airfares from HCMC and Hanoi to Europe, mirroring price reductions from other carriers since March.

The state-owned carrier will make promotional prices available from September 1 to October 30. Specifically, passengers flying from Vietnam to Paris or Frankfurt will pay US$777-888 for a return trip, down substantially from the current $950-1,200.

Hong Kong base HOnCathay Pacific has managed to attract passengers from HCMC to Europe by offering a special price of $727 a return ticket.

Singapore Airlines offers $789 for a return ticket for Vietnam-Paris and Vietnam-Frankfurt services, and $828 for flying to other destinations in Europe.

Malaysia Airlines has joined the price war by offering a return trip to Europe at $739.
